the black sheep
The Black Sheep is a newly renovated single family row house in the heart of Philadelphia’s Point Breeze neighborhood. It is named for its distinctive dark exterior and its comprehensive approach to combating climate change, making it stand out on the block.
One of the standout features of The Black Sheep is the 3.5kw PV panel solar pergola array with a battery pack, which generates sustainable energy for the home. The green roof also plays an important role in sustainability, absorbing CO2, producing oxygen, improving air quality, reducing the heat island effect, and naturally absorbing rainwater to prevent runoff.
Another important feature that contributes to sustainability is the street and yard trees, which absorb CO2, produce oxygen, and restore ecosystems with deciduous trees in the street and various gardens. In addition to improving air quality and restoring natural habitats, these trees and gardens also minimize solar heat gain, reduce the heat island effect, and provide shade and privacy during the summer months.
Inside The Black Sheep, the open concept kitchen is a highlight, centered on the main area and designed for entertaining. The kitchen is highly functional and can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate any lifestyle.
Overall, The Black Sheep represents a unique and sustainable approach to modern urban living. With its innovative features and commitment to combating climate change, it is an example of how architecture can make a positive impact on the environment and the community.
